The Dodd Respect Campaign has been successful. Earlier this school year, a brochure was developed to describe the Dodd Respect Program. Copies of this brochure, along with letters and certificates were mailed out to the community businesses that supported us in the past.

A banner was purchased to remind everyone that peace and respect are the goals for the year. We have had several activities and contests to promote “respect” in the school and the community. Students drew posters that reflected positive virtues and ideal characteristics. Many students wrote poems and raps about “respect”. Monetary prizes were issued for poster, poetry/rap and essay contests, which were held during the year. Selected student poems are read every morning as part of the morning announcements. Students are engaged in daily activities, which demonstrate that “doing the right thing” has a positive impact on everyone.

Our Student Respect Committee is presently engaged in rehearsing and developing costumes for a theatrical presentation to be made to elementary school students on the topic of respect and citizenship. They choreographed dances and will sing and perform a short play as part of the presentation. Video taping of their presentation will take place early June. Also, they finished the design of the Respect T-shirts, which will be issued in the fall.

Students who participated in the various activities this year were treated to a pizza party in May. Students forward to participated in the Future Corps Night at the Nassau County Fair, which was held on June 13, 2000.
